GLOBALFEST FIREWORKS FESTIVAL 2015

GLOBALFEST FIREWORKS FESTIVAL 2015

WHAT: GLOBALFEST INTERNATIONAL FIREWORKS FESTIVAL 2015
WHY: FIREWORKS FESTIVAL / COMPETITION
WHERE: ELLISTON PARK, CALGARY, CANADA
WHEN: 20th TO 29th AUGUST 2015

This annual event began in 1993 following the formation of The Calgary Fireworks Festival Society but the search for a suitable venue which could have the fireworks and still host the numbers of visitors anticipated.

The quest continued for 10 years and in 2003, the inaugural Globalfest International Fireworks Festival got underway much to the delight of the tens of thousands of spectators.

Today, the event is co-sponsored by Trico Homes and has continued to grow into one of the biggest events in the Calgary calendar.

The fireworks are set over the Lake at Elliston Park for the 2015 Champion of Champions event where world-class teams from around the World all compete to lift the trophy as they have all won here at least once.

The competitors are as follows:

CHINA - THURSDAY 20Tth AUGUST
PHILIPPINES - SATURDAY 22nd AUGUST
SPAIN - TUESDAY 25th AUGUST
USA - THURSDAY 27th AUGUST
CANADA ***FINALE*** SATURDAY 29th AUGUST

Adjudicators will be keeping their eyes peeled as each contestant wows the crowd with their own interpretation of what they feel is the best display. Judges will take into consideration when marking:

The quality of the display.
The scope of the work undertaken.
The richness and brightness and use of the colours.
Synchronisation of the music and fireworks.
Originality, choice of music & staging of the display.
25% of the music featured MUST originate from the firers own country.
Use of the compulsory piece (to be announced) all competitors will have to feature in the demonstration.

The strict guidelines the teams have to adhere to, makes this a unique event not seen anywhere else in the world. An added bonus at this event is the firing position which looks to mirror the display on to the lake below, doubling the beautiful scenes for the expectant spectators.

Along with the usual concessions, there are a number of things for the children to do including bouncy castle, trampolines, face painting and arts and crafts.

Tickets for the event start at $20 (Canadian) for one day’s access to the park, with tickets still available from $75 for admission to all the teams.

As yet the officials have not told us of which teams from the competing countries will take up the banner for their national pride, but we will let you know as soon as we do.

Not able to attend? Enjoy the finale from last year’s event at Globalfest 2014.
