17th Asian Games Fireworks Display

Friday 19th September 2014 saw the 17th Asian Games get underway in Incheon, South Korea – only the third Korean city to host the Asian Games.

The Asian Games 2014 is officially known as the XVII Asiad and will run from 19th September to 4th October 2014 inclusive. The games will have 36 separate sporting disciplines across 49 venues with 9429 competitors.

The slogan for the games is ‘diversity shines here’ reflecting the significance of this fantastic event which draws in athletes from a wide range of countries with diverse cultural, historical and religious backgrounds.

The mascots are three spotted seals who’s names translate as wind, dance and light.

The representative for the Olympic council of Asia, Chief Sheikh Al-Hahad Al Sabah told the executive board that he ‘hopes that over the 16 days our athletes and countries representatives will participate with goodwill and appropriate behaviour.

Friday’s opening ceremony was a very traditional affair with few of the more elaborate theatrics as seen in the Olympics. The games’ ‘flame of hope’ was lit by Korea actress Li Yeong Ae.

The fireworks were as expected absolutely beautiful from the footage we have been fortunate enough to check out. Here is a short clip of some of the fireworks on the night:
